A wine registry is a great idea for the couple who has it all.
It's a chance to stock up on varietals you can drink every day, and
select vintages to save and enjoy on special occasions. But even dedicated
wine drinkers may find the task a bit daunting. New York City's Italian
Wine Merchants, owned by Sergio
Esposito, celebrity chef Mario
Batali, and James Beard Award-winning wine expert Joe
Bastianich, offers this solution: spend an evening in
its private vintage room with one of IWM's sommeliers who will guide
you through a series of tastings. In addition to the five or eight
bottles of wine that may be sampled, guests of the vintage room also
enjoy a selection of antipasti from the on-site salumeria to complement
the tastings. At evening's end, you will have gained wine smarts as
well as a registry with the makings of a stellar cellar.
