The Signature
Style of Sandrone
Luciano Sandrone is often
labeled a modernist because he opts for
shorter macerations, the use of some new
oak, and shorter aging requirements for
his wines. However, that is only half the
equation. Here, the craftsman respects
tradition and only incorporates aspects
of modern technology and technique to showcase
the utmost potential of his precious grapes.
His magical juice does not rely on 225-liter
barriques for style (he prefers the 500-liter
tonneaux). Luciano’s training comes
from a traditional background at the historic
Marchesi di Barolo estate. It is here that
he earned and saved enough to purchase
his own tiny estate. Now his boutique-style
winery with choice plot locations produces
some of the richest, most polished Barolos
in the region.
Barolo Cannubi Boschis
Sandrone's only single-vineyard bottling
is one of Barolo's most prized modern wines.
This wine receives a little more attention
than Le Vigne because of the 5-acre site
on the majestic Cannubi Boschis hill. The
wine displays a well-defined bouquet and
palate of raspberry, juniper, mineral,
and toast. Full-bodied and creamy; the
mild acidity and gentle tannins glide right
into the long finish. Slightly richer and
less complex than Le Vigne.

Barolo Le Vigne
A union of highly selected grapes from various
vineyards in Bussia, Cerretta, Conterni,
and Vignane create a classic combination
of nebbiolo flavors: black cherry, rose
petal, and melting tar. This is one of
the great blend-style Barolos left, and
is Luciano’s choice wine. Sandrone's
modern tilt surfaces in the spicy new oak
tones. Full of perfume, flavor, and body,
this exquisitely concentrated wine is a
testament to the power and complexity of
Barolo.
