Delicious
Montalcino Reds
No
other Italian wine has captured the interest
of American wine enthusiasts like Brunello
di Montalcino over the past decade. This
celebration wine is the perfect birth year
wine and gift selection that will always
make an impression. As we approach the
end of 2004 IWM is providing an added glimspe
into Brunello - not just offering wines
from the much talked about ripe vintage
of 1999, but also wines from the landmark
1997 vintage, a limited selection from
the often overlooked wines of 1998, and
the historic vintage of 1990.
Brunello (the little dark one) is a Tuscan
dialect name for Sangiovese grown in Montalcino,
south of both Chianti and Siena. In this
dryer, hotter, and more Mediterrean climate
of southern Tuscany, the limesone and sand
soil produce a muscular Sangiovese grape
capable of making a rich, dark, concentrated
and delicious red (heavier and more tannic
than Chianti). Tongue-curling tannins and
firm acidity allow these wines to age, catching
the eyes of wine collectors, Popes, Presidents,
Kings, and Queens.
