1997
and 1989
Rocche
dei Manzoni Barolo
Unlike most other Barolo
producers, Valentino just released his 1997s
and did not raise his prices. And for the
holidays, he generously provided us with
unbelievable 1989 Mags! BRAVO!!!
These wines exemplify outstanding vintages,
great vineyards, perfect soil and the latest
technology.

Valentino Mogliorini’s
estate lies in Monforte d’Alba, where
you will also find Aldo and Giacomo Conterno’s
estates. Barolo from this famed area is
known for its fantastic complexity, massive
structure and ageability. It is the home
of the longest-lived Barolos and has the
oldest and most unfertile soil of the area.
His wines are a lesson in the balance of
Power and Grace that Barolo should exemplify
in its best expression.
1997 Valentino Barolo “Vigna
d’La Roul” $68.00
The most elegant of the three. Silky, layered
and elegantly textured, this wine is approachable
now but will age beautifully for 10 years.
1997 Valentino Barolo “Vigna
Big” $68.00
Lots of beautiful earthiness, saddle leather,
complexity and power with a brawnier structure
than the “Roul”. This wine is
a great example of what Barolo should exemplify.
It will need 2 years to become approachable
and can age for 20+ years.
1997 Valentino Barolo “St.
Stefano” $73.00
This vineyard is the crown of Valentino’s
hill vineyards, with constant sun and gentle
breezes. This soil is the poorest of all
his vineyards, and the vines produce tiny
quantities of perfect fruit. Very complex
and dense, it is not uncommon for a wine
of this stature to age for 30+ years. Stunning
Barolo!

Liters):

Roul”
