WINE NEWS / The Vineyards of Franciacorta Monitored by Satellite

Precision farming is one of the most innovative veins of wine production, the center of a particular experimental project begun by the Consorzio del Franciacorta that will be presented on September 18th at the Franciacorta Festival in Erbusco. This year’s festival will focus on monitoring grape development in the vineyards; this highly advanced method makes use of aerial photographs that show the emission spectra of the vegetation. Complex algorithms translate these observations into data about the grapes’ stages of maturation in terms of sugar, acidity, and polyphenol. The consortium hopes that this project will help them regulate the territory appropriately as well as giving the estates precise information that will make choices in production methods and timing less difficult.
