Celebrities Devote Themselves to Italian
Wine
Italy’s
wine world has experienced an influx over the last few years
from a surprisingly different sector, resulting in some impressive
new selections. Sting is in the clutches of the first harvest
in the immense vineyard he recently bought; Bob
Dylan’s
Planet Waves is about to come out at Fattoria
Le Terrazze; Mick
Hucknall of Simply Red owns vineyards on the slopes of Etna.
Italian wine has also enthralled entrepreneurs like editor Paolo
Panerai, who is producing a great red wine called I sodi di San
Niccolò near Siena, and Diesel creator Renzo Rosso, who
has created three incredible wines in the Veneto with the help
of legendary winemaker Roberto Cipresso. Even the art world is
bewitched by wine, with painter Sandro Chia composing Brunello
just as he would a painting. These fresh new winemakers cannot
escape the commercial element of distribution, but even Esselunga,
Italy’s largest supermarket chain, has been gravitating
towards quality wine and now hires sommeliers to help customers
make more sophisticated choices.
