Tracking System for Colli Bolognesi DOC
A new
online tracking system has been created that already covers nine
thousand certified bottles of Colli Bolognesi DOC wine. To trace
a bottle of wine, the consumer simply enters the code on the
bottle at www.collibolognesi.it. The site tells the history of
each bottle from the vineyard through the cellar: information
is provided on the vineyard site, the laboratory analysis, the
producer, and the number of bottles produced, and maps of the
vineyards will soon be available as well. This initiative is
part of the control system set in place by the Consorzio dei
Vini Colli Bolognesi, which is among the first wine consortia
in Italy to apply the principles set forth in the regulation
plan of May 29, 2001.
According to Riccardo Ricci Curbastro, president of Federdoc, this
is a guarantee for both the producer and the consumer: almost fifty
percent of Italian DOC production is already subjected to the regulations,
with a total of 140 million certified bottles produced in 2004, and
the tracking system will reinforce the standards of production. Curbastro
further explained that these controls continually link the wine more
closely with the land, a crucial aspect of the high-quality DOC and
DOCG wines.
