From Russia With Vino! French Restaurants
Pour....
French restaurateurs in Russia have been ordering
Italian wines, which are increasingly requested by their clients.
In fact, the amount of Italian wine exported to Russia increased
by 25% in 2003.
An initiative started by “Vinitaly Moscow” and involving
about thirty of Italy’s top wine producers (including Conterno,
Ca’ del Bosco, Allegrini, and Tenuta
San Guido of Sassicaia)
was designed to create a strong, lasting economic rapport that will
create more commercial opportunities for Italian firms. According
to the vice-president of the Istituto del Vino Italiano di Qualita,
this is the first official venture abroad by a consortium that aims
to promote quality Italian wine around the world, a policy that puts
pressure not only on the companies in the consortium, but on the
wine industry of the entire country. In the coming months, Vinitaly
and Veronafiere, its organizing company, expect to break into the
markets of the US, China, and India.
