WINE NEWS / Tuscan Labels Protected for Decades

New orders by the European Commission have made it permissible for other European countries to use the labels of historic Tuscan wines like Brunello di Montalcino. Claudio Martini, president of the Tuscan Region, emphasized the reassurance of the European Commission and added that this new policy is currently “more theoretical than practical.” He explained that the restrictive conditions for these labels are so difficult to achieve that it will certainly be many decades before there is any real possibility for other countries to make use of them. Martini therefore concludes that the renowned Tuscan labels will remain secure for a long time to come.
