Soave Prepares for Self-Examination
The Consortium for the Protection of Soave has designed a new biennial
plan for development of production to help experts and local producers
achieve
advancements
in quality and to understand their niche in the market. The project,
which will cover two years of studies, is a collaboration with the
group “Veneto Agricoltura” and
will focus on estates like Gini, Monte Tondo, Inama,
and Pieropan that best demonstrate the unique qualities of the Soave
zone. The plan begins with the
organization of data relating to every step in the winemaking process,
including viticulture, vinification, labeling, and the finished product.
The next step will be more specific, breaking down information by
variety and getting into the processes of matching grapes to ideal
vineyard sites as well as suitable growing techniques and the products
created from those grapes. The final stage of the project will hone
in on selected wines, re-examining characteristics drawn from terroir,
variety, and production techniques. Producers will ultimately receive
comprehensive reports that extend beyond the technical aspects of
these wines to include the history and personal touch that makes
them what they are.
