Italian Sparkling Wines Gain Popularity in USA
Italian sparkling wines are second only to French
in American consumption, as evidenced by a 6.1% increase in their
export to the United States. This advance was detected by the Italian
Wine & Food Institute in the first four months of 2004 compared
to the previous year. However, consumption of French wines in the
US fell a shocking 23.1% while Italian gained 5.3% over last year.
With this change, Italian wines now account for almost a third of
all American money spent on foreign wine, with Australian wine making
up more than a quarter and French keeping slightly over one fifth.
