WINE NEWS / Two New Voluntary Subzones Created in Friuli Isonzo

The consortium that controls the DOC designation of Friuli Isonzo (which includes producers like Vie di Romans and Lis Neris) recently presented two new subzones, “Rive Alte” and “Rive di Giare,” the fruits of a two-year zoning project performed by the consortium. These will be voluntary titles that complement the traditional DOC designations and which will be used only by those producers who adhere to the qualitative standards set by the consortium. Five wines now qualify for the new titles, but the most prominent is undoubtedly Pinot Grigio, which is extensively and increasingly cultivated in the Friuli Isonzo DOC and which will certainly benefit from this new opportunity.
