WINE
NEWS / Bottled Poetry from Arnaldo-Caprai
Marco Caprai of the Arnaldo-Caprai estate in Umbria
launched a new project entitled “Bottled Poetry” which
features 40 poetic citations about wine imprinted on the corks
of his 2001 Sagrantino 25 Anni. Inspiration for the project came
from the words of Robert Louis Stevenson, “Wine is bottled
poetry.”
The estate is credited for the incredible comeback of Sagrantino
wines which are made from the eponymous grape variety to be found
growing only on the hills surrounding the Umbrian village of Montefalco. “There
exists an indisputable link between poetry and wine,” muses
Caprai.
Selected citations include: “Life is too short to drink
mediocre wine” –Goethe; “There is more knowledge
in a bottle of wine than in all the books written by men” –Pascal;
and “When I drink I think, when I think I drink” –Rabelais.
Passionate enthusiasts and collectors quickly caught the scent
of this exclusive treasure hunt when Caprai announced that those
who are able to collect all 40 citations will win a 5-liter special
edition bottle of Sagrantino 25 Anni.
