About the Producer:
Enrico Scavino's
majestic reputation earned him the title of "Grand Master of the
King of Wines" through careful vinification methods that respect
both the hand of the
winemaker
and the fruit
of the land. His approach of radical modernization made him among
the first in the Langhe to build a new winery with temperature-controlled
winemaking and storage facilities. His pioneering work with rotary
fermenters and use of small barrels puts him at the forefront of
a new breed of Piemonte producers that includes Clerico, Voerzio,
and Sandrone.
To complement his technological upgrades, he adopted the practice
of drastic selection in the vineyards, producing such low yields
that even the difficulties of an off-vintage could be overcome.
However, Mother Nature has blessed the Langhe Hills with six textbook
vintages (1996-2001) with 2000 receiving the most critical acclaim.
Each year displays Barolo’s many complex personalities; Scavino’s
winemaking ability provides for the most reliable Barolo on the
shelf.
