About the Producer:
In 1956 Giuseppe
Bensa, the father of the present owners, purchased a small piece of
land in order to produce wine to be sold at his local inn. Thus La
Castellada was established. Near the end of the seventies his sons
Giorgio and Niccolò took over the estate. A perennial space
holder on IWM shelves, La Castellada produces some of Friuli's best
bottles in the Oslavia subzone of the Collio DOC area. The last few
years have seen this estate expand from a two-wine production (one
red and one white) to a varied presentation that includes a number
of varietal bottlings. The brothers age all their wines in oak, each
wine and vintage receiving a sophisticated, customized treatment.
Their masterful touch keeps the wood on the sidelines while varietal
character takes center stage, featuring fresh fruit and cream flavors
that evolve with each sip. The Bensas release their wines when they
are drinking well, not when market timing demands, eliminating guess
work for the consumer and collector alike.
