Producer: Il Palazzone

Region: Toscana

DOC(G):
Brunello di Montalcino
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Rosso di Montalcino

About the Producer:
At the head of the Il Palazzone estate is Time Warner CEO and Chairman Dick Parsons; this high-powered businessman bought the estate when his wife suggested that a hobby outside of work would do him good. Despite a demanding agenda here in New York, Parsons loyally participates in the production of his wine at every stage. Selected by Sergio as among the best Brunello's in the landmark vintage of 1999, Il Palazzone truly stands as a benchmark for excellence in Montalcino.

The vineyards of Il Palazzone embrace 10 hectares high in the hills of Montalcino, which are believed to contribute to the extra bold character of this Sangiovese clone. For almost ten years now, the estate has been focusing its energy on just three bottlings – Brunello di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, and Rosso di Montalcino – both of which are very full-bodied and elegant. The Brunello Riserva is produced only in truly outstanding vintages, and all the wines are aged in French oak. In order to concoct ageworthy Brunello of the best quality, the estate allows an extra year in wood beyond the DOCG standard and releases each vintage six months or more after most wineries do.
