About the Producer:
The Caparzo site
is named for the Ca’ Pazzo, or madman’s house, that once
stood here in the cooler northern part of Montalcino. The large estate
that now resides here was founded in the late 70’s by a diverse
group of businessmen, none of them of Tuscan origin but all with an
eye to the future of the zone’s great traditional wines. The
founders shared a shrewd understanding of commerce that begot an inherently
Tuscan wine with an international flair. Enologist Vittorio Fiore
meshed perfectly with this vision and has since developed a delightful
line of classic wines. Tenuta Caparzo’s 190 hectares, of which
76 are vineyards (71 in Montalcino and 5 in Buonconvento), are divided
among several sites. Modern vinification lives harmoniously with traditional
methods in the cellar, where the best possible techniques are chosen
for each individual bottling. The greatest achievment of this estate
is hands-down the Brunello from the La Casa vineyard, having received
top ratings from the most respected wine critics worldwide. Caparzo’s
is one of the best Brunellos for the dollar.
